SMP Prothermic Underwater Cutting Rods can be used 1000ft below the surface of the North Sea or by the local fabrication and welding companies on dry land.  The SMP Prothermic Underwater Cutting Rod eliminate the time and cost of the conventional and difficult cutting techniques used today.

The rods can be used on the following types of materials; most types of the steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, concrete, rock, rope and wood.

The rods require suitable oxy/cutting torch with the capability of fitting 3/8 collets, oxygen regulator, a power supply from a large commercial vehicle battery (12 volt) or/and arc welding machine and sufficient hose and cable to reach the job sites, the prothermic rod burns at an approximate temperature of 10,000 degrees fahrenheit, and will continue to burn even when the power supply is turned off. Simply turn the oxygen supply off and the rod stops burning. The width of the cutting is approximately 1/2" wide depending on the experience of the operator and will cut metal up to severalinches thick.

UNDERWATER USE:
Cutting through steel bracings on offshore structures, oil and gas pipe lines, both steel and concrete coated. Removing underwater foundations of jetties and piers, cutting through concrete caissons, cutting up sunken vessels, all types of marine salvage and propeller removal.

By demolition and scrap contractors for penetrating and cutting through most types of metals, railway engineers for cutting through tracks, machinery companies for cutting through large and difficult tasks , foundries for cutting through shafts and large pieces of steel. concrete contractors for cutting through concrete and rock without reinforcing., steel erection companies in connecting bridge construction and repairs.
