The SMP 2 Diver Radio Set is a surface terminal for a communication system designed for the use between a surface tender and one, two or both divers. Facilities are provided to connect the system for (ROUND ROBIN) four wire open channel operation.

In normal two-wire operation of the system, control is entirely from the SMP 2 Diver Radio Set, which is biased to normally receive messages from the divers. Only when the surface operator transmits is the receiver speaker inoperative for reception; if, however, the system is connected for four wire operation, with the surface operator wearing a headset and microphone, then twoway communication is possible on an open channel.

The SMP 2 Diver Radio Set system in its standard form is a battery powered unit, powered from internal battery. Provision is made for an external 12 volt DC source, or from a mains power supply. Facilities for connecting a monitor tape recorder, headset and microphone are provided.  The SMP 2 Diver Radio Set is housed in a robust plastic case that has been designed to operate in hostile environments and stand the normal abuse it will receive in the diving industry.
