The Birns SuperEx is designed to fill security lighting needs in the explosive environments of offshore oil production platforms, chemical plants, intercontinental rocket launch pads and military storge areas.
The SuperEx produces 70,000 lumens output and an amazing axial intensity of 750,000 candelas, the SuperEx penetrates the dark night fogs surrounding offshore platforms with a beam powerful enough to shine 200 metres out to sea.
Intense light generates intense extreme heat, but the SuperEx is engineered so that the highest temperature attainable by any point - even under the most unfavorable conditions - will remain well below 200 degrees C.
Flameproof. That is what you call a light head that can withstand an internal explosion of flammable gas without suffering damage or without igniting the surrounding gas. The SuperEx is to our knowledge the world's only certified flameproof high-intensity light for Zone 1 hazardous areas.
Since most gas-discharge lamps require 5-10 minutes warm-up time after even a momentary power failure, saboteurs might cut the power and take advantage of these lamps' warm-up time before emergency power has been affected, Defensively SuperEx includes an electronic "hot-restrike" unit which returns the lamp to full brilliance almost immediately after a momentary power failure.
The complete SuperEx comprises the luminaire with hot-restrike electronics in seperate attached housing; adjustable pan-and-tilt mounting yoke; Compact Iodine Discharge (CID) lamp and electronic ballast in remote flameproof housing.
