The Cygnet is Birn's most versatile hazardous area light. It was desinged as an explosion-proof projection light for the launch gantry of NASA's shuttle programme at Cape Canaveral, Florida; thus the Cygnet withstands tremendous blast forces, fire and immense vibration.

As well as being a hazardous area projection light, the Cygnet can be used as an underwater light carrying a long-life 250-watt projection lamp. Or it can be modified with a ballasted 100-watt mercury vapour lamp to increase the rated lifetime to 16,000 hours, for very long-life applications.

As a damage-proof underwater security light, the Cygnet works at oil platform wellheads, to illuminate dark areas under drill rigs and platforms, and at water intake grilles for city drinking water and nuclear power plant water cooling.
