- The Birns Nova has the fastest relamping time of any deep-sea light. An ideal light for the midrange ROV, the Nova incorporates great strength, brilliant light output and low cost.

The Nova is tough. Its thick hemispherical housing has 5 coatings to prevent corrosion and is tempered to shrug off knocks, while its 16mm thick tempered borosilicate glass lens is proof against almost anything. Three heavy-duty prongs on the lens ring ward off random blows.
The Nova is bright. Its lamps operate on either 120 or 240 volts, with wattages ranging from 100 to 1000. A highly polished parabolic internal reflector makes the most of every watt.
The Nova cuts operating costs to the bone. Not only can the Nova be relamped in 30 seconds (without removal from the vehicle), but its hydrodynamic shape reduces drag. Utilising the Birns exclusive 'JB' connector the Nova eliminates all wires, fragile solder connections, screw loosening, and a host of maintenance problems associated with the old 'socket and solder' design. This combined with long-life lamps and a very reasonable initial price, makes for low, low operating costs.
