The Birns Deepie has a greater depth capacity than any other underwater light in the world. Very few submersibles can decend to the ocean bottom, but the Deepie can.
The Deepie means strength. Its 38mm (1.5") thick housing and bulletproof lens combine to make an almost indestructible light. The tempered lens alone will support up to 85 metric tonnes (94 Imperial tons)!
The Deepie means brilliance. We know that for a submarine, battery power is precious. That's why the Deepie is carefully desinged to provide the maximum illumination/watt ratio efficiency. The "closed" parabolic reflector encases the lamp filament in its focal point and is constructed either of polished clear-anodised aluminium or mirrored glass. The domed lens serves not only as a pressure port but also to 'spread' the light into a pleasing, useful beam, and the lamps are chosen specifically to be compatible with either Black & White or colour filming or videotaping.
The Deepie means adaptability. It can operate on 12, 24, 28, 30, 82, 120 or 240 volts, with too many combinations of wattage to list here. Two different yokes and two diffrerent lenses, for different applications, are available.
The Deepie means safety. Guaranteed to 6850m (22,500 feet) depth, the Deepie's housing is dielectric to a minimum of 500 volts. The lens is tempered and toughened borosilicate glass. Higher voltage (120 or 240 volts) Deepies are earthed. All Deepies undergo hydrostatic, continuity and arc-resistant testing by trained personnel.
The Deepie means dependability. When you're down at 5000m, you can't afford to have a light failure, and you wont have one with the Birns Deepie. The Deepie's maintenance is virtually non-existant - there are no solder joints to break, no wires to disengage and no socket screws to come loose.
The 120 and 240 volts lamps are rated to 2000 hours lifetime; when it finally does become necessary to change the lamp, the Deepie can be relamped, without tools, and without removal from the vehicle, in 60 seconds!
