DNAx Nitrox membrane compressors. In other
words a compressor that "De-Nitrogenises Air" (DNA), or in layman's terms,
takes air throws away the nitrogen and saves what's left, "OXYGEN ENRICHED
AIR". The technology behind this system has been available for years but has
only been utilised in industry due to the size, complexity, and cost of the
membrane.
The new membranes now available do away with all
these problems and provide small, easily maintained, cost-effective units that
can be used with most compression systems or bought as a complete compression
system in a purpose built cabinet.
The MCH 14 TECH NITROX manufactured by Aerotechnica
Coltri of Italy. This is a semi-soundproofed cabinet and uses a Coltri 9.3 cfm
(260 litres/min) high pressure compressor, which has been set to run at 8 cfm
(225 litres/min) in order to maximise the effect of the membrane. The purpose
built cabinet also contains a low pressure compressor, membrane system, low
pressure receiver, two oxygen analysers and breathing air filtration for both
low and high pressure compressors. By leaving the low pressure compressor
switched off during operation the high pressure compressor can be utilised to
provide high pressure air to 300 bar at 21% oxygen.
Undersea Breathing Systems Inc is the inventor of
the patented DNAx# (De-Nitrogenated Air Nitrox) Membrane System that has
dramatically changed the concept of diving with Nitrox. The DNAx# System
produces any blend of Nitrox from 21% through 40% oxygen by de-nitrogenating
instead of enriching standard air with high pressure oxygen.
